Elm Creative Arts Elementary School in Milwaukee Wisconsin hosted 9 UWO  students for the Urban Experience May 18-23, 2008. Dr. Lenore Peachin Wineberg is the coordinator of the program.  The nine UWO students were: Amber Wade, Wendy Nitz, Ashley Smith, Alissa Western, Tiffany Hank, Christa Meyer, Andi Kneepkens, Colin McCarville and Naoimi Kosbab.

The Urban Field Experience provided an opportunity for UWO preservice teachers to explore urban school environments and to learn about the community and its citizens through first hand experiences. Education majors shadow a teacher in a classroom for one week The goal is to provide preservice teachers with positive experiences in urban areas where there is a pressing need to recruit teachers.  The students resided at Mount Mary College dormitory in Milwaukee and participate in cultural activities to get a sense of the city and community.
