Registration Information

WHEN DO I REGISTER FOR CLASSES?

  • Your registration date will appear at the top of your STAR report.
  •  It is critical that you register for classes on your registration date.

HOW DO I KNOW WHAT COURSES I NEED?

  • Freshman and Sophomores will be required to meet with education advisors to develop a course plan.  This will help guide you in determining course selection.
  • Two documents will help to help determine what classes you should take.
    • STAR report - this report will tell you all of the classes required for your major and your minor.  It is important that the correct major and minor are listed on your STAR.  The STAR is divided into sections.  If your STAR says "OK" in the box, that means you have met the requirement.  If the box says "No", that means you still need to take course work to meet that requirement.
    • Planning Sheets - your planning sheet not only tells you what courses are required, but when to take them.  Course sequencing is extremely important.   Watch closely when courses are offered.  nning sheet

WHAT DOES IT MEAN IF I CAN'T REGISTER FOR A CLASS AND IT SAYS "DEPARTMENT CONSENT"?

  • The courses listed below need Department Consent and require that you fill out a registration form.   Because Peoplesoft is not able to check all prerequisites, it is necessary to complete additional paperwork to make sure you meet eligibility requirements.  Education courses that require you to fill out a registration form in person are:

- Individual, School & Society (Elem/Sec. 201)

- Secondary Learning Community Blocks (Clinical, Methods, Reading, Inst. Tech)

- Block B for Elementary and Dual Majors: Elem Ed 316, Elem Ed 317, Elem Ed 360 and  Reading 305

Registration forms for these courses are found in Nursing/Education 113.  Bonnie Gaskill, in the Professional Education Department, will process your registration and add classes to your schedule.   Please contact Bonnie Gaskill at (920) 424-0115 or email: gaskill@uwosh.edu if you have questions about registration.

  • Special Education courses that require Department Consent are processed through the Special Education Department office, N/E 404.
  • A course will also say "Department Consent" if the class is full and a wait list has started.  Please check with Bonnie Gaskill in N/E 113 to put your name on a wait list.

HOW DO WAIT LISTS WORK?

  • Wait lists for all courses (except Special Education), are managed by Bonnie Gaskill in the Professional Education Office, N/E 113.  If a class is full and it is your time to register, you should contact Bonnie to get your name on a list.  Please email gaskill@uwosh.edu.
  • Class lists and wait lists will be monitored throughout the semester. You will be notified by email if a space is available.  Be sure and check your campus email on a daily or weekly basis.  Spaces will not be held indefinitely if you do not respond.

WHAT DO I DO IF ALL THE CLASSES I NEED ARE FULL?

  • It is important that you register for all classes that you can at your registration time.  Do not delay.  Plan ahead and have several options in mind if your first choice is full.  Be flexible
  • Get on wait lists as soon as you can.
  • If spaces do not open, you may need to attend class the first day with an "add card".  It will be up to the instructor if they want to add additional students.   If the instructor signs the card, please return to Bonnie Gaskill in N/E 113.
  • Be persistent and proactive.  Follow up with the Professional Education Office on a regular basis about possible availabilities.
