Thomas R. Scofield received his bachelors of science in Developmental Psychology in 1982 from the University of Wisconsin Parkside. In addition, he has completed Master's and doctoral level coursework at the University of Wisconsin in Child and Family Studies, Clinical Child Psychology, and Educational Psychology. He received his Master's in Science and Education from the University of Wisconsin at Oshkosh. Currently he is an Associate Professor/Clinical Instructor and program coordinator for the Community Counseling emphasis within the Counselor Education Department. He teaches within the core community counseling courses where his efforts are aimed at creating an artful balance between the rigor of what is to be learned and its relevant application in the real world of service provision.
In 1992 he completed his doctoral studies in Counselor Education within the Educational Psychology Department at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. His doctoral research investigated the outcome of a multi-component training package utilizing instruction, behavioral rehearsal, role-play, modeling, and direct feedback in the training of marriage and family therapists in the use of circular questioning skills. This earlier training effort and research undertaking has led to numerous creative projects and research studies in the areas of Counselor Training and Supervision as well as Diversity/Multicultural and Social Advocacy initiatives.
