I student taught on a special program to teach
in the inner city (Cooperative Teacher Education
Program, CUTE) in Kansas City. I then returned to
Kansas City, Kansas where I taught high school English,
Drama and Debate. Seeing the need to learn more
about how schools work, I left public schools to
attend the University of Wisconsin Madison where
I received a Master's Degree in Educational Policy.
To become better prepared to train teachers to work
in a multicultural setting I attended the University
of Iowa here I received a PhD. in Curriculum and
Instruction with an emphasis in the Foundations
of Education and Minority Education. Before coming
to University or Wisconsin Oshkosh I taught for
nine years in the Education Department at Ripon
College, Ripon, WI.
Looking at the scholarship and service I am drawn
to, the single guiding focus is the issue of equity.
Being in the field of Multicultural Education, I
am consistently dawn to a variety of issues that
hinder students and teachers from achieving an equitable
system. Although my research varies from Multicultural
issues to ESL.Bilingual to Accelerated Reading,
the focus remains the same. The guiding component
is equal educational opportunity for all student.
In the past five years I have written and had accepted/published
six refereed journal articles and one book chapter.
I have submitted one article from a paper presentation
at an international conference. I also have a book
prospectus on teaching grammar submitted. In addition
top the publications I have papers presented at
three international conferences, four national conference,
six stat conference and five local conferences.
