I have had the most wonderful and rewarding experiences of working as a classroom teacher in the elementary classroom, a substitute teacher at all levels PK-adult education, a K-8 building principal, a university instructor, and now, as the director of the Professional Education Program in the College of Education and Human Services. I feel my career has come full circle and has given me the unique pleasure of working in the field of education at all levels.
In transitioning from the elementary classroom to administration, I spent four and a half years working as a Sales and Marketing Coordinator for a small business in California that designed and manufactured precision electronic measurement instruments. This experience provided me with an opportunity to explore other areas of interest, develop hidden skills and increase my knowledge in content areas unfamiliar to me. It also gave me the confidence to pursue careers in education that were outside of the classroom.
One of the many rewards of being in education is that no two days are ever exactly the same. Teaching and learning are complex processes of self-discovery that change throughout our lifetimes. It is my hope that as I continue with my process of self-discovery, I am able to apply what I learn to what I practice, and ultimately share it with others. It is the sharing that makes teaching profoundly meaningful.
