The past year, 2005 – 2006 has been a particularly exciting one,
both personally and for the College. Just a few highlights, before talking
about 2006 – 07; while there were a significant number of major
accomplishments by faculty and staff, a few friends retiring, a few
new ones arriving, new initiatives, the old round of getting ready for
NCATE and DPI’s joint reviews, a number of successful conferences
sponsored by the College, the year was for me best typified by new experiences
and scenery. There was the Homecoming Parade, the first College Alumni
events and new Chapter, the getting to know the faculty and staff, numerous
meetings, a first winter in Wisconsin, the excitement and potential
for the College of connecting with local schools and UW campuses, and
all of the myriad adventures occasioned by a first year Dean.
2006 – 2007 should be an extraordinary year for the College of
Education & Human Services, with many initiatives begun last year
moving into action. All of the departments and units are full of energy
and ideas as the College as a whole enters the new frontier of a major
strategic planning effort, extends its programs into the world of online
teaching, prepares for the race for new grants, and looks into the potentials
associated with international education ventures. Many of the outreach
efforts, begun last year, are now unfolding and resulting in new courses
and new students. Most of these are listed under the departments or
in “Events” so I won’t detail them here but do want
to note that they do include our friends at Head Start, Project Success
and in the newly returned Reading Studies Center. The year had an unbelievable
kick-off in the mid-September Dragon Boat Races which resulted in a
wonderful sense of camaraderie, energy and optimism that suffuses the
College. Ahead is Homecoming, the dedication of the “Hutchison”
room, another parade and our alumni tent with its caramel apples, our
sponsored conferences, new partnerships with UW Sheboygan, Fox Valley
and Fox Valley Tech, and dynamic new efforts to extend our presence
both on the ground and in the virtual world throughout northeastern
Wisconsin. This year has all the harbingers of an exciting, positive
and productive one. We hope you join us!!
Please feel free to wander through our College’s website and
view all of the exciting programs and events that make up the life and
experience of this special institution. We’re all very proud of
what we do in the College and at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh,
of our programs, events and most of all, our students. If you have any
questions, please let us know.
