Departmental Mission and Multicultural/Diversity Statement

The mission of the Educational Foundations Department is to provide a solid core of subject content and learning experiences to prepare undergraduate and graduate students for their professional education careers as caring intellectuals. The Department anchors knowledge, skills and dispositions in the theoretical knowledge that is the basis for sound methodology and pedagogy cutting across all boundaries. The professional activities of the faculty center on the historical, socio-cultural, psychological, legal and philosophical ideals of democracy, equity, social mobility and liberty. Departmental offerings guide students to a solid understanding of the critical role education plays in transforming the social order for the creation of a democratic and just society. Participation in outreach programs supporting continuous teaching improvements is essential to the department's mission.
