What Is Human Services?
 
Human Services: Graduate Competencies
 

Human Service graduates will be able to:

  • Identify roles, functions, history and future of human services within a generic skills perspective.

  • Describe human behavior and interaction from a cognitive, humanistic, behavioral, multicultural, and environmental perspective.

  • Demonstrate basic human service skills such as responsive listening and problem-solving.

  • Demonstrate diverse communications skills using the creative arts.

  • Link classroom skills and knowledge to experiences in human service agencies.

  • Demonstrate behavior consistent with human service ethics and values.

  • Develop a sense of self-worth with an appreciation for the diversity of others.

The Human Services graduate will have gained an extensive understanding of the forces operating within the individual as well as an understanding of those forces affecting the individual within natural groups, organizations, communities, and global environment. The student will become competent in listening and problem solving, linking others to resources, facilitating interaction between and within resource systems, developing social policy, dispensing material resources and serving as agents of social control.
