Brief Bio:

For eight years, I taught English and German to high school students in predominantly low-income, diverse urban high schools in the Midwest and Southwest. When I returned to graduate school at UW Madison, I focused on multicultural education, literacy, and teacher education. Graduate experiences include teaching multicultural education, literature for children, literature across the curriculum, reading methods, and working with developing student teachers.

My graduate focus on preservice teachers led me to scholarship that explores their experiences in my introductory education course. For example, I examined how students’ experiences in traditional classroom settings shaped their expectations for both me and themselves in my more democratically oriented course. My latest scholarship seeks to reveal how students’ spiritual/faith backgrounds and experiences impact their understanding of and reactions to particular issues in my course.
