We live in the most interesting of times. Change is happening at
a pace and in ways that were unimaginable in previous times. The
penalty for not adapting to these changes is too high to contemplate.
We must adapt. Schools must adapt.
I believe learning is an active and exciting process. Students
and teachers together should explore current problems and opportunities
while they master important academic content. I firmly believe in
project based learning as the key to engagement and long term learning.
We all have talents and interests. We all can succeed. But, we will
not succeed in the same way, at the same time, and in the same area.
That is good. Difference is good, it makes life interesting and
helps to fill in the whole picture.
I have been teaching here at UW Oshkosh in the Educational Leadership
program since 1990. My areas of expertise include instructional
technology, curriculum, leadership, and program planning and evaluation.
Prior to this I taught home economics for seven years in two different
Junior/Senior high schools in my home state of New Hampshire.
My scholarship has focused on promoting learning opportunities
for all students including students who have not traditionally excelled
in schools. At this point in time I am most interested in exploring
how technology can engage and promote learning in students. We live
in a different world than ten years ago, we must change schools
and classrooms to prepare students for this world and what is yet
to come.
