Curriculum & Instruction Department

Welcome to the Curriculum and Instruction Department!

The Curriculum and Instruction Department prepares undergraduate  students to become licensed teachers in early childhood (PK-3), early childhood through middle childhood (PK-6), middle childhood through early adolescence (1-8), early adolescence through adolescence (6-12), and early childhood through adolescence (PK-12) art, music, physical education, and foreign language. In collaboration with the Special Education Department, we also offer licensure programs for dual early childhood regular education (PKPicture of Student with Quilt-3)/early childhood special education and dual middle childhood early adolescence (1-8) regular education/middle childhood through early adolescence (1-8) special education cross categorical. The English as a Second Language major and minor and bilingual Hmong and bilingual Spanish minors are attractive options for students interested in teaching English language learners.

Teachers with a regular Wisconsin teaching license may enhance their professional knowledge and practice through the master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Workshop

In both the undergraduate and graduate programs, our goal is to encourage teachers to become caring intellectuals who promote the well-being and growth of their students and think deeply about teaching and educational issues. We provide opportunities for preservice and inservice teachers to become well-educated in culture, subject matter knowledge, learning theories, and diverse groups and skillful in creating curriculum and using different pedagogical strategies to foster learning among a variety of students. Finally, our goal is that teachers become skillful practitioners, reflective professionals, and change agents in their schools and communities.
