The Curriculum and Instruction master's program provides licensed PK-12 teachers opportunity to further develop expertise in teaching children and adolescents. The program allows teachers who have licensure in Special Education and selected areas to extend licensure in early childhood, elementary or middle school education. It also allows most regular education teachers to add licensure in English as a Second Language, Bilingual Education-Spanish or in Bilingual Education-Hmong.
The program focuses primarily on curriculum and teaching with emphases in early childhood, elementary, secondary education, or English as a Second Language/Bilingual Education. Other emphases may be individually planned.
Graduate classes are offered annually or biennially during fall, spring, or summer. Others are offered every semester and summer. Classes are scheduled for the convenience of full-time PK-12 teachers. Additionally, classes may be held at off-campus sites through distance education. Some courses are offered at the UW Sheboygan campus by faculty from both Sheboygan and Oshkosh.
Two options are available. The seminar plan (36 credits) requires taking the Seminar in Curriculum and Instruction course, or a thesis plan (36 credits) requires completing a thesis.
National Council for Accreditation of Teaching Education (NCATE), Licensure programs approved by Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI), North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA).
In addition to Graduate School minimum requirements, admission in full standing requires that the applicant must have teacher licensure, or eligibility for it. Graduate courses previously taken will be evaluated for application to the program.
